Map the workflow before separating the equipment

A workflow inventory shows what is connected, what is shared and what is available. It is particularly useful when different parts of a setup belong to different research groups.

Seller resource / September 2026

Draw four simple groups

Group the equipment under preparation, separation, measurement and workstation. List model numbers inside each group. The purpose is to describe what exists, not to reproduce an experimental method or reveal research data.

Mark shared and retained components

Identify shared pumps, chillers, computers and other supporting equipment. Mark anything that remains in the laboratory even if it appears in an overview photograph. This avoids treating a working installation as a fully available package.

Match photographs to the inventory

Start with a complete view, then add readable model-label photographs and images of included accessories. Use the same equipment reference in the list and photo filenames. Do not remove covers or dismantle connections to improve a photograph.

Describe the last known configuration

If modules have been swapped or removed, state that explicitly. Record the last known use of each major component. A system that worked before a module was removed needs a different description from one still in its documented configuration.

A reusable equipment record

The CSV template opens in common spreadsheet applications. Keep one row per item and link related modules with a system reference. Leave genuinely unknown details marked as unknown.
